Snow Day!

Like most of Southwest and Central Virginia, I went to bed Tuesday night with a few inches of snow already covering the ground, and with no plans for the following day, I was excited to see what I would wake up to.  I dreamt that it snowed several feet of snow, and while that wasn't the case, the 8 1/2 inches of snow that we did get wasn't disappointing!  I hadn't gone out and played in the snow in years, so I got on Pinterest to get some fun snowman ideas.  Instead of a snowman, I got the idea for a snow cat.  It was easy to make and I even managed to get a picture with the snow cat and my real cat.  After coming in from the snow I ate lunch and then planted myself on the couch.  I Skyped with some friends, and then got on Pinterest and Facebook, read, napped, and repeated that cycle until dinner.  After dinner there was a game of Scrabble and now I'm watching the Olympics.  A perfect snow day if you ask me!

East Tennessee Weather

The weather here is infamous for being strange and unpredictable.  For example, during the second week of January it was warm enough outside for me to go running in a t-shirt and shorts.  And then today, the 25th day of March, five days into spring, six days until Easter, and it snows all day.  Not only did it snow all day, it snowed in the most bizarre patterns I have ever witnessed.  It started out just as flurries, then it snowed, with the snow blowing in horizontally.  An hour later it all quit and the sun came out.  Then it started snowing again, coming down from all directions this time, all while the sun was still out.  Then everything turned gray.  So gray and foggy that I couldn't see the dorm 100 yards away!  Then it stopped snowing and then it started and then it stopped.  Then the fluffy white clouds came out and the sky turned blue, and then it started snowing again! This randomness went on all. day. long.  We got practically no snow last year, so the winter weather has been nice this season; the key words being has been.  I am ready for warmer weather now!

Snowy Weekend

It's been snowing off and on since Thursday, and I haven't minded at all!  Sure, it's been cold, but there hasn't been any ice, so driving conditions have still been fine, and the big, fluffy, white snowflakes are beautiful.  It's been the kind of snow that flutters down from all directions and I feel like I'm living inside of a snow globe - it's wonderful!

This was leaving Grace Fellowship Church Friday afternoon.

And this was heading to church Sunday morning.

Ice Ice Baby

Well, it was another Friday at home for me.  No snow this time, but lots of ice!

I'm A Believer

Like I mentioned in my last post, it's been raining a lot.  It seriously rained all day Monday and Tuesday, it rained off and on Wednesday, and I woke up today to steady rain once again.  They were calling for it to turn into snow, and everyone was all excited but I was sticking to my "I'll believe it when I see it," attitude when it comes to East Tennessee weather.

By early afternoon the rain turned to slush and the temperature kept dropping so we called it a day at the office and each headed home to work.  After about an hour I peeked through the blinds and it was white outside!  I believed!  By around 5:00 it was still coming down steadily, getting darker, and I realized that if I was going to get some pictures I need to get on it.  I threw on my coat, stuffed my sweat pants into my snow boots and headed out.  We didn't get any snow last year, and I'd forgotten how wonderful the sound of snow crunching under your feet is and how a blanket of white can transform an otherwise ugly apartment complex into a peaceful winter wonderland!

Thankful for that new coat I got for Christmas!

The power ended up going out for about three hours, so I just sat my flashlight on its end, and straightened up the apartment and finished reading a book.  It was a good, quiet couple of hours!

Thankful for that Mag-Lite I got last Christmas!
