Pretty in Pink

One thing I hate about cold, wet weather is that it majorly limits the shoes I can wear.  Since my feet get cold so easily I have to wear socks, which means I can't wear flats or heels or obviously sandals.  So now I've basically been wearing the same 3 or 4 pairs of shoes or boots for a few months, and it's starting to get old!  The weather today was supposed to be pretty decent and I took advantage of it, by wearing my new bright pink flats with a big flower on them.  I know I looked out of place in the midst of all the blacks, browns, and grays of winter, but I don't care!  I looked cheerful!

And now the promised update from yesterday.   I mentioned that I was making home made frosting and would let you know how it went.  My roommate from my freshman and sophomore year of college, Mackenzie, has always loved to bake, and about a year ago she started a baking blog, The Caramel Cookie.  One of the recipes on her blog that I've been wanting to try was for this Fantastic Frosting, so last night I went for it. I wasn't able to get started until after I got back from the gym, so I was getting a late start.  My roommate had already gone to bed, so I was trying to be quiet, which is hard to do when you're baking.  I figured I would just be able to throw all the ingredients in a bowl, stir them together, and viola, have frosting!  But I was wrong.  That's one thing I'm bad about with projects, I get excited and rush into it without reading directions first.  Anyways, it turns out that I had to beat the ingredients with a hand mixer.  That would be loud. I needed to be quiet.  I didn't know what to do.  I had already started the recipe and couldn't just put it in fridge until the morning.  So, I looked around, considered my options, and did the only logical thing. Went into the bathroom, turned on the fan, and mixed my frosting!  Confectioners sugar was flying everywhere and I was trying not to laugh at myself.  It was one of those moments when I removed myself from the situation, looked at it, and told myself "Aimee, this is ridiculous! YOU are ridiculous!"  I hated how loud I was being, so I stopped mixing a little too soon, so the frosting was a little lumpy.  It tasted great though!  The real test is going to be from The Well band, they're who I made all the cupcakes for in the first place, so they will have they final say.  I probably won't tell them I mixed the frosting in the bathroom though...

The cupcakes in the front are heart shaped, but it's kind of hard to tell.
